Not just a place for the first or new home buyer, display homes showcase the latest and greatest products and decorating trends from all around the world.

Home builders regularly travel the globe to iconic style countries such as Europe to bring home designer trends and ideas and then seek associated suppliers to build and decorate a display home that captures the attention of the local market.

Brett Thomas Director of The Blind Factory said that plantation shutters were the best example of display home inspiration catching on.

“From the moment builders started using plantation shutters to separate internal walls in display homes; we had an increased demand for them.

“Builders were obviously looking to try and create more natural light within homes and the concept of using an internal shutter to break up walls works perfectly,” he said.

Brett also added that using shutters in internal walls allowed for easy supervision and control of noise levels.

If important calls need to be made, say in the home office, the internal shutters can be closed and the noise from the family hub is significantly reduced or eliminated.

“If younger children are using the study area to research on the internet or chat on social networking sites, many parents enjoy the fact shutters can be left open for easy supervision,” he said.

Brett added another popular display home trend that had transcended into sales was the multi-layer look.

“Some estates have display homes quite close to each other but you never really get the feeling of too close.

It’s simply because the interior decorators have used products to their advantage and in many cases have used multiple blinds to get the desired look and feel,” he said.

Brett said that display homes had moved away from solely installing block out roller blinds and were now leaning towards a combination of block out and sunscreen or translucent blinds, encouraging natural light while giving them the control to create privacy.

"With shrinking house and land sizes, the window cover project tends to be a smaller job overall and because it's not such a big project, new home buyers are increasingly keen to fit quality blinds and are also now considering options such as motorising blinds," he said.
